PREPARATIONS FOR A SAFE SUMMER CAMP SEASON

Updated: July 1, 2021

Commitment to Safety

Canby Grove is committed to the safety of all of our visiting campers, counselors-in-training and staff. We are in compliance with all local and state mandates and, as an added precaution, we have limited our session camper capacity in an effort to minimize risk. We have also requested that camps visiting Canby Grove ask the families of campers attending their session to limit exposure risk for their household for the 14 days prior to arriving at Canby Grove.

As we prepare for the summer camp season, we are closely monitoring updated information from the Clackamas County Health Department and the Oregon Health Authority (OHA). The following are several procedures we are asking visiting camps to practice this summer at Canby Grove:

Face Masks

As of July 1, 2021, the State of Oregon no longer requires anyone to wear a mask unless they choose to do so for personal safety reasons. Parents can require their camper(s) continue to wear a mask and camp staff should support that decision. Please pack masks for your camper(s) for the week at camp.

If your camper has a medical condition that puts them at increased risk should they become COVID-19 positive you may want to consider if this is the right summer for them to attend summer camp.

Screening

Campers should be screened for COVID-19 symptoms prior to admission to camp. We ask parents who have children attending a camp at Canby Grove to please partner with their Camp’s Director and us in preventing a COVID-19 outbreak at camp this summer by limiting your household's exposure for 14 days prior to camp and be mindful of looking for possible symptoms. If you suspect a member of your household may have been in contact with a COVID-19 positive case please test your household and let the Camp Director of your camp know so they can help you determine if now is the time for your camper to join the camp.

Canby Grove asks that camps coming to our facility continue to place campers in cohorts of up to 30 campers maximum as a way to minimize the potential spread should a camp have a positive COVID-19 case. The cohort will attend program activities. Interacting with campers outside their cohort should be minimized for COVID-19 safety. Only campers/staff assigned to a cabin should enter the cabin at any time. Open windows and box fans will increase air flow and ventilation in the cabins. We suggest that campers sleep in a head-to-toe formation to increase the distance between individuals in a cabin. Indoor activities should also be minimized. Restrooms should be limited to one cohort's use at a time.

  • Per Oregon Health Authority, daily contact tracing logs should be kept for each cabin by camp counselors. Camps should retain all contact tracing logs for 4 weeks post camp.

  • Parents should provide their campers and/or C.I.T.s with transportation to and from Canby Grove. When carpooling, campers should travel with members of their assigned cohort.

  • Each camp’s staff should conduct a Daily Wellness Check each morning for everyone in camp. Anyone suspected of COVID-19 symptoms should be isolated and transportation from camp by a parent or guardian should be arranged.

  • All program activities should be structured to allow for an increased distance between participating campers. Only one cohort should engage at a program area at a time. It is a good idea to limit sharing of personal items. Campers should wash hands before and after program activities.

  • Campers, C.I.T.s and Staff should consider limiting shaking hands, hugging or high-fives.

  • Canby Grove has provided multiple hand washing and/or hand sanitizing stations to wash hands between programs.

  • Hydration Stations should be provided for campers throughout camp. Campers and C.I.T.s should bring their own labeled refillable water bottle. Campers and C.I.T.s SHOULD NOT SHARE water bottles.

  • It is recommended that cohorts be assigned a designated dining space when utilizing indoor and outdoor covered locations. Meals should be served in a cafeteria line style or family style.

CAMP HEALTH & SAFETY UPDATE

Updated: May 1st, 2021

To our Canby Grove guests and community:

We wanted to take a moment to let you know that your health and safety continues to be of great Importance to us.

We continue to monitor guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) are communicating regularly with our employees to share any new information as we receive it. We are also in contact with customers directly when appropriate to share our planning.

Specifically, here is how we are managing this situation as we prepare to receive guest groups for the summer:

  • Sanitizing. We are sanitizing all surfaces that people touch frequently (especially dining hall and conference facility tables and chairs, stalls and surfaces in the bathrooms, guestroom bed frames, tables and chairs and all door handles) using disinfectant certified to kill coronavirus. We have also added hand sanitation dispensers around the camp property for the added convenience and safety of our guests.

  • Hand Washing. We have continued to emphasize and train employees to follow our hand washing policies which include requiring our Kitchen, Dining Hall, Guest Services and Housekeeping employees to wash their hands every 30 minutes (for at least 20 seconds) with soap and water. We also require all our employees to wash their hands every time after using the restroom, after touching his/her face and hair and before eating, preparing or handling food. Further, we ensure all soap dispensers have hand soap and paper towels present at all times.

  • Gloves. Our kitchen employees will continue to wear plastic gloves when prepping any meals and change gloves at least every 60 minutes, or more frequently as needed.

  • Employees exhibiting any signs of sickness are prohibited from working.

As necessary, we will continue to provide up-to-date and transparent communication regarding our efforts. The safety and security of our guests, employees and our volunteers remains our highest priority.

Thank you for your commitment to Canby Grove. We look forward to our ongoing relationship and we appreciate the trust you place in our organization.
